the tea, the story.

A gentle first step: Japan's everyday green tea and Japan's rarest black tea, both from Morii Farm in Kizugawa, Kyoto. Sencha is fresh, light and grassy; Kyoto Black Tea is mellow, honeyed and needs no milk. If you have only ever drunk tea bags from the supermarket, this box shows you the two ends of what one farm can do with the same bushes.

What is inside

Sencha, 50 g — spring first flush, steamed, bright and clean; about 16 pots. Kyoto Black Tea, 8 pyramid bags — Yabukita and Sayamakaori, summer-picked, rested one season; about 16 cups.

Why together

Sencha teaches you temperature (70–80 °C, under a minute); the black tea asks nothing of you (boiling water, three minutes, a bag). One for mornings, one for afternoons. You save €2.90 compared with buying them separately.

Frequently asked questions

Which should I try first?

The black tea; it is impossible to get wrong. Then sencha with water that has cooled for five minutes.

How much caffeine do they have?

Sencha roughly 20–40 mg per cup, Kyoto Black Tea roughly 30–50 mg. Filter coffee is about 90 mg.

Do I need a teapot?

For the sencha, any infuser or a small pot with a strainer. The black tea comes in pyramid bags.

Is the black tea really from Kyoto?

Yes, from the same farm as the sencha. Kyoto makes very little black tea; this is one of a handful.
